Why is it we want everything to be bigger and better all the time? Especially the bigger part I don’t get. The most important things in life can’t even be touched like love and happiness. The most successful killers in the world are too small to be seen by the naked eye (viruses and bacteria). What’s most vital to you today can be right in your face without you even noticing it.

And perhaps the most important dog food ingredients are small as well. Yep… there’s the link . Surely we know there must be enough proteins, fats and carbohydrates present in our doggie’s meal. Vitamins do have our attention as well. But have you ever considered the amount of minerals or do you get bored even thinking about it? Of course you can’t really rank importance of dog food nutrients as for a healthy happy dog ALL OF THEM need to be present.

Suppose you would examine your dog with a very big seeing-through microscope (well, just imagine… ). You would see that his food is digested and broken down to building blocks by enzymes. The building blocks are then reassembled and used for growth and maintenance of ‘Fido cells’. For digestion, reassembly, transportation, absorption processes and many other processes, minerals are essential. If everything else is present but there are no minerals… then just forget about it!

Suppose your dog has a dull coat. This could be due to multiple factors amongst which zinc or sulfur shortages. Anemia can be the result of poor iron ingestion.

Not just deficiencies in the diet can result in diseases; over supplementation can also give unwanted results. When you feed complete and balanced dog food, all essential minerals are present in the right amounts. Whilst supplementing vitamins can at times be beneficial; supplementation of minerals is a risky business.

Sometimes, less is more! Some dog breeds are prone to copper storage disease which can damage the liver.
